Preventing Brett Kavanaugh from being confirmed to the Supreme Court has become priority number one for Senate Democrats. With a minority in the Senate, though, there was little that Democrats could do to prevent his confirmation – except for running a carefully orchestrated smear campaign against him.
Whether Kavanaugh’s accusers are telling the truth or not is a highly important question that GOP senators will have to answer for themselves if either of them testify before the Senate. However, regardless of whether or not the accusations are true, Democrats have still completely mishandled the entire situation, treating accusations as nothing more than political leverage right from the start.
From withholding information about the accusations until the last minute to constructing a narrative that suggests that Kavanaugh should be treated as guilty before he is proven guilty, Democrats have used Kavanaugh’s accusers as political pawns at every turn. It was a tactic that worked well against Roy Moore in Alabama, and now it’s looking as if it may work again against Brett Kavanaugh. Allowing Democrats to continue purposefully mishandling cases such as this for political gain and the success of this tactic so far, though, is deeply troubling.
