Democrats Regret Asking Al Franken to Resign

If you needed any more proof that Al Franken’s resignation from the United States Senate was nothing more than moralist grandstanding, Democrats are now changing their tune once again.

Earlier in December, Franken agreed to step down following a wave of sexual harassment allegations implicating several high-profile lawmakers and political candidates. Just ahead of the highly charged special election in Alabama, Franken announced his plans to resign — making Democrats look like the good guys.

While it was hard to argue that Franken’s choice to resign was the wrong thing to do, many political commentators correctly predicted that this was little more than a political ploy to put another Democrat in the Senate. In addition to the stunning defeat of Roy Moore in Alabama, the Democratic Party’s vote from Minnesota is almost guaranteed.

Because of this, it’s not surprising that many Democrats are now urging Franken to reverse his decision.

It would almost be funny if it wasn’t so painfully predictable — and bad for America.
