Former CIA Director: Conflict with North Korea is ‘Likely’

With North Korea continuing to issue credible threats to its neighbors and the United States, its past time for the federal government to seriously consider what conflict in the region will look like.

In an interview with Newsmax TV, former CIA Director James Woolsey sounded off on this threat, and explained why America can no longer rule out a military option from the start.

Pyongyang has made astonishing advances in its nuclear weapons program over the past few years, in part empowered by Chinese funding and Obama-era pacifism. It has since staged launches which have landed in the Sea of Japan, provoking heightened tensions between North Korea and its Western-backed neighbors.

According to Woolsey, America’s first step in a hypothetical showdown would be to take out the country’s satellite capabilities, which would make it harder for North Korea to attack South Korea directly. Naturally, that’s just the easy part. The next step would take a lot of political will on the part of the president.
