Ocasio-Cortez Now Refuses to Allow Press to Attend Town Halls

For two straight town hall meetings, self-proclaimed socialist congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has refused to allow members of the press to attend, saying that her decision designed to make members of vulnerable populations such as immigrants and victims of sexual assault more comfortable attending the events.

This excuse leaves one to wonder what it is about a press badge that would make immigrants and victims of sexual assault feel uncomfortable at a town hall meeting, but, of course, it’s obvious that this was not the real reason why Ocasio-Cortez has come to shy away from the press.

The reality is that the media’s love affair with Ocasio-Cortez is slowly starting to wear off. Thrust into the national spotlight out of nowhere, Ocasio-Cortez has made one blunder after another, causing even liberal outlets such as the Washington Post to begin fact-checking her ludicrous statements with a level of scrutiny that Ocasio-Cortez no-doubt finds discomforting.

Holding a press-free town hall gives Ocasio-Cortez the chance to rattle off any absurd claim to uninformed voters that she wants without worrying about her claims making headlines in the news the next day. It might have been a welcome reprieve for someone as ill-suited to be in the position that she is, but it’s still yet another sign that Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t belong within ten miles of Capitol Hill.
