The Media’s Biggest Lie of the Year?
Recently, TIME magazine unveiled yet another cover that takes a not-so-subtle jab at the character of President Donald Trump by showing him standing over a scared, crying immigrant girl who had supposedly been separated from her parents when they tried to cross the border illegally.
There’s only one problem – the girl in the photo was never separated from her parents by immigration authorities. Rather, the entire family was kept together and the father, speaking to the Daily Mail, said that they are “doing fine”.
It’s difficult to know whether or not TIME was aware of the true story when they published the now infamous cover and depicted the girl as having been separated from her parents. In the wake of the father’s interview with the Daily Mail, TIME has published a correction to the story detailing the true circumstances of the photo.
Regardless of whether the photo and story were a deliberate attempt to twist the narrative or a mistake that is an example of poor, hasty journalism, the TIME magazine cover is yet another instance of the mainstream media placing the importance of bashing President Trump way ahead of the importance of honest and accurate journalism.
