Trump is Now Daring Democrats to Impeach Him
At no point did President Trump seem all that concerned about what the Mueller investigation would turn up or about the possibility of impeachment. Now that the Mueller investigation is complete, though, and Trump has been cleared of any wrongdoing, the President is naturally more confident in his innocence than ever before. In fact, he’s now practically goading Democrats to try and impeach him.
At this stage, trying to impeach President Trump would be a serious miscalculation by the Democratic Party. In the wake of Mueller releasing his final report, support for impeaching Trump has dropped to a new low. With the 2020 election on the horizon, attempting to move forward with impeachment proceedings would cost Democrats moderate and independent voters while providing Trump with plenty of ammunition to take into his campaign. Nevertheless, many House Democrats still want to blindly charge forward into impeachment proceedings – and Trump is egging them on.
So long as Republicans control the Senate, the chances of Trump actually being removed from office are slim to none. If he is able to goad Democrats into trying to impeach him, therefore, he has very little to lose and a lot of political leverage to gain.
