When Virtue Signaling Goes Wildly Wrong

Virtue signaling ranks among the most treasured pastimes of the liberal Hollywood elite, who have recently begun using every opportunity and platform that they have available to show the world how “woke” they are in order to receive a pat on the back from their like-minded friends.

Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of instances where this behavior goes wrong. As Hollywood actors continually try to one-up each other’s virtue signaling prowess at the countless award shows they attend on a near weekly basis, the result is often times an actor who simply tries a little too hard.

Enter Andrew Garfield, who thought that his moment to speak at the Tony Awards was a great opportunity to lecture the nation about how Christian bakers should be forced to bake cakes for gay weddings. Because naturally, the half a dozen people who actually tuned in to the Tony Awards were supremely interested in hearing what the man who pretended to Spiderman had to say about the Supreme Court’s ruling on First Amendment rights in a place of business.

While Garfield’s speech is certainly an example of virtue signaling gone wrong, there are very few examples of Hollywood virtue signaling going right. Until celebrities are taught a hard-earned financial lesson that browbeating half their audience isn’t the best route to success, though, one can only expect the nauseating virtue signaling to continue.
