It would seem as if Hollywood still hasn’t learned its lesson about the financial perils of mocking and alienating half of its customer base. Now, the latest stinging rebuke of Hollywood’s political antics comes in form of ratings that this year’s Emmy Awards show received – ratings that demonstrated an 11% drop in viewership from what the show brought in last year.
Given the content of the Emmy’s this year, it should come as little surprise that many Americans chose to quickly turn the channel or skip the show entirely. In yet another nauseating example of leftist groupthink, celebrity after celebrity used their time to speak on the show as an opportunity to attack President Trump, the heartland, and Christianity – all to rounds of appreciative applause from their like-minded colleagues.
If the ratings are any indication, though, America isn’t applauding. While this rhetoric may please liberal viewers who are already watching the show, it isn’t exactly going to attract any new viewers. After all, regardless of your political views, the Emmy Awards isn’t exactly going to be your go-to source for political commentary. What this rhetoric is doing, though, is giving conservatives and even centrists plenty of reasons to tune out – a reality that the ratings have reflected.
Maybe someday Hollywood will learn its lesson and start leaving the political grandstanding at home. For now, though, they continue to take a beating in the ratings from Americans who are fed up with their antics.
