Trump’s Border Wall Compromise has Dems Backed into a Corner

In the midst of the longest government shutdown in American history, President Trump did what he has always been known for doing best – bringing everyone to the table, offering a compromise, and coming up with a deal that both sides can live with. And yet still, Democrats said no.

Trump’s latest offer to get funding for the border wall was a solution for DACA recipients that would grant them a three-year extension to stay in the country while Congress worked on a more long-term policy. In a matter of hours, Democrats rejected this offer.

The problem for the Democratic Party is that Trump now has them backed into a corner. He has given them everything they have asked for, and yet still they refuse to even seriously consider his offers. As Democrats continue to avoid even the notion of negotiating with the President, it’s becoming more and more clear that this is indeed a Democratic shutdown. When one side is willing to bargain and the other is not, it’s obvious who is to blame for the gridlock.

Eventually, a solution must be reached. So long as Democrats remain unwilling to negotiate, though, the image of the party will continue to take a beating.
